What happened to the what where and why of the news reports of yore?

Everyday i watch the news on and off, and they say "such and such has happened in midwest" (no city named)... Not the midwest covers a lot of territory... Name the city...

And these previews they show... I lose interest if they don't give me the immediate story as it comes in... Don't give me a half a sentence and them make me wait for ten minutes for the complete story...
