Real Estate Scam
Johnson Jones (as johnsonjones345@live.com) listed an apt. I have for rent in Brooklyn, NY on craigslist as his own. He copied my ad almost verbatim, listed my exact address with a picture of my house, knocked $1000 off my monthly rental fee and is asking people for a $1000 deposit. He used some interior pictures of a property I've never seen and is not in this house.
We were alerted by a real estate agent who saw the posting 6 hrs. After it went up on 8/14/09. The agent gave us the email address of a person who had already inquired about the ad, so I alerted that person of the fraud.
The police can't help us since they don't consider this a crime. I've emailed the legal department of craigslist and even attempted to contact Johnson Jones as a prospective customer. Please advise us of anything further we can do to nail this guy.
