Mold Scam - stay away from these crooks! Naples Florida

I got the ad for JBL Air Duct Cleaning from "The Home Mag" special for $39. I just bought my home in FL and thought it would be a good idea to have the air ducts cleaned. I phoned JBL for their special. The technicians came out on July 9. Ray (the tech) said before he had the front of the unit off - "Oh we have a real problem here"... You have mold."

I am going to do a test and show you that this is toxic and you are breathing this stuff in and this is deadly"... He took a pen type of instrument with what appeared to be a long cotton swab, swiped the unit, put it back in the tube and in 10 minutes, it turned dark purple... He said, "sure enough it is toxic mold!"

Larry and Ray cleaned my unit (inside the garage) without special masks... Well I was too freaked out by it and said do what you have to do - he told me that it would be $1700. I was charged $249 for blower cleaning, $349 coil cleaning, $249 sanitize, $339 mold control, $275 mold eliminator, $199 for anti-bacteria and $79 drain flush! The techs were here a whole hour! Here comes the best part. Ray said "Well since we took care of the mold and saved your unit, you need this UVA Light to keep the mold from coming back." He said the cost was $900!! I said look I am sorry but I am not working, I am thankful that my brother is paying for this... He said "Let me call my boss and see if I can give it to you cheaper." He came back at $600, after several refusals, then $450, I still refused, then came back and said "OK, I can do the whole thing for $2,000 - so you are only paying $167 after the tax.

Having the daylights scared out of me that my home was toxic... Was the only reason that I told them to do what needed to be done.

I phoned my husband back in MD and he said, that is scam... We never paid that kind of money to have our air ducts clened in MD. He asked if they wore special masks.

After speaking with my husband and neighbor, I went on the internet and typed in JBL Air Ducts and sure enough - there were several complaints. I immediately called Channel 4 News to report this scam.

I am only writing so that somebody else does not get scammed like I did... Luckily my brother paid by credit card so we are disputing the charge.
