By now you may have heard about The Baby's Room closing 4 locations in SE Michigan and not delivering furniture that was already paid for. If not, here is the best explanation. Many parents and expecting parents have been affected by this. Some have already had their credit restored through their credit protection. However those are the few good stories. Most people are either in a dispute stage if they used a debit card or they are out right now of their cash or check. Most people are out over $1,000. Plus a ton of stress at a time that is supposed to be fun for parents.

Baby's Room filed for Chapter 7 protection on Tuesday, June 16. It is my understanding that this protects their personal assets. However, it is my belief that they committed fraud which is a criminal act. When Baby's Room made a sale they would tell customers their furniture would be in within 8-16 weeks. Baby's Room is supposed to order the furniture from whatever manufacturer the customer chose. This brings me to my case and most others involved in this scam.

The manufacturer of the furniture I purchased is Baby's Dream (there are several other manufacturers that other victims chose). We purchased almost $2,000 worth of furniture and accessories. I spoke with Baby's Dream by phone this afternoon and they said had been refusing to ship orders to Baby's Room for months because they were deliquent on payments. I confirmed this afternoon that at the time of my purchase Baby's Room was deliquent. So they sold me a product they could not supply. That is fraud and they should be prosecuted. Baby's Room knew they could not furnish the product to me, but they still took my money and sold it to me.

It is my hope that you pursue this case. Why? So they are held accountable and it doesn't happen again. What would stop anybody else from doing this? Hypothetically I could get a business license, sell Baby's Dream product to innocent customers, take their money, pocket it, file for Chapter 7 business bankruptcy, and all that would happen is my business would suffer. I can't do that because it is fraud.

I hope you pursue this case. I have a communications degree and I am well aware of the positive press you would get by pursuing this matter. This is a huge human interest story. Michigan parents have been victimized by scam artists. Michigan parents who paid in full in this horrendous economy.

There is a Facebook page that has been created for victims to express their anger. I invited you earlier this afternoon. I hope you join and express your concern to the victims. I plan on launching this Facebook page further and make all media outlets aware of this grassroots effort.
