Secret Shopper Scam!

I received a letter addressed directly to me by Lexis Marketing & Research Management Inc. Out of New York. The letter stated that I have been selected to be a secret shopper with a check attached in the amount of $3965.31; also included was a survey form to be completed at the end of assignment.

I contacted the number listed and spoke to a Mr. Steve Jones on April 28. He then in turn informed me of the process to complete the transaction. I, of course, asked the simple question of how do I know this is not a scam and he replied that the company has been in business for over 25 years and he has been employed with them for several of those years along with other convincing factors.

After talking with Steve, I called the bank's merchant verification number to verify funds which were available; however, I still contacted the actual bank that the "Official Check" was drawn from after searching this company online and being directed to complaint. Upon talking with the teller, I was informed that the check was infact a scam. I just want to let others know to please be ware and research all factors before falling into these traps. I certainly thank my family for their advice and GOD for redirecting my path.

Since talking with Steve, I have not been able to reach a physical person at the number given. Again, please be ware and seek advice before completing any transactions.
