The office is owned and operated by Brian McCord. I have done business with Mr. McCord since arriving in the Savannah area in 2007. I was attracted by his generous discount offer for tax preparation for Gulfstream employees.
I received a letter from the IRS on April 6 informing me there was an error performed on my 2007 tax return. Mr. McCord had assured me, in confidence, that if any error arises he would handle the situation under the fee paid for tax preparation. I arrived at his office April 13 with the letter from the IRS and the packet he had created for me from his office for the 2007 return. I was not notified at all the week of the 13th. I placed a follow-up call on Monday, April 20. I was informed by his assistant, Melissa Smith, that she would look into the issue and provide a follow-up call that afternoon. I was not contacted as promised. I did a follow-up call to this instance on Wednesday, April 22nd. The receptionist informed me Mrs. Smith was not in the office and to try again on Thursday. I called Mrs. Smith on Thursday and was informed the process would be complete on Friday, April 24th.
Upon arriving on April 24th, Mrs. Smith had the amendments prepared, but to my shock and amazement, she had billed me for the correction to an error in which their office had initially made. I asked Mrs. Smith to have Mr. McCord call me on Monday, April 27th. She took my number and promised he would call me first thing.
I never heard anything from Mr. McCord and returned a call Wednesday, April 29th to his office. He set-up an appointment and met with me on Thursday, April 30. I discussed my concern with Mr. McCord and expressed my deep disappointment in his and his staff's unprofessionalism and lack of concern for my situation. He asked me what could be done to rectify the situation and, in the sense of fairness, I asked that he and I split the cost of my penalties. He vehemently denied any wrong-doing and disavowed having had any conversation with me concerning the responsibility his office accepts for accounting errors with the IRS. He further stated that I had placed the additional information in the packet after he had prepared it. I explained on April 13th, to his assistant, that the package was intact as he had given it to me the previous year and she concurred. Now, not only had he made an error on my return, he brought into question my integrity. I left there sorely disappointed and feeling betrayed.
I am forwarding this to you, Mrs. Carey, so we can provide my fellow co-workers with the true and concise service provided by Mr. McCord and Daniels Accounting and Tax Service.
