Ripoff

I purchased a Western digital 40GB 7200 RPM hard drive, among other things, on December 29 at the CompUSA store at 623 Stewart Avenue, Garden City, NY 11530 at @: 46 PM on December 29.

I made sure that I read everything on the box carefully because I KNEW I was entitled to a rebate. I cut out everything that Western Digital asked for, made copies of everything I sent and I sent them the original receipt as they INSISTED I do so. I was a little wary of this because the thing was my only proof that I had bought this product but I sent it anyway (after copying that too. This rather unwieldly package cost me extra postage as it was lumpy and heavier than regular mail (they's insisted for specific chunks of the original box the thing came in. All this was sent out on January 11 (the rebate said the envelope had to be postmarked by 1/18/03.

TWO AND A HALF MONTHS LATER (the week of March 23-27) I called the rebate hotline and asked them where my rebate was and I was told that it was "rejected" because I "did not include the original receipt" When I told the representative that I most certainly had and was looking at a copy of it she changed her answer to "you didn't make clear what model you bought or what date you bought it" I countered that response with "I'm looking dead at a copy of the receipt and not only did I circle the brand, model, purchase date and amount of the product but I also circled the store I purchased it in and the time it was purchased." She very snottily replied "Well we don't have it so you better fax it to" 914 633-8772 today so we can process your reply. Time is running out." I was given an event number of 11295-2875. I ran out and sent the fax, despite a severe sinus infection and fever of 104.6. I then called her back and she said "Lady what do you want me to do? If you sent the fax we got it... I don't have it in front of me now but it will be processed soon." When I asked when she said she "didn't know." I told her I'd call back in a few days to check. I called back three days later and still nothing had been done. I called back a week later and nothing had been done.

It is now April 14 and I still have no rebate. I went online this morning to inquire about my rebate... AGAIN— and I saw nothing but links for this rip-off.

I am now adding my statement to the numerous others but more than anything... I want my $30 rebate from western digital.
