"encore" new debt collection agency uses fake phone numbers & never leave a message so that you can call back

We are continually being harassed by a new credit collection agency known as Encore. They call us at least 8 to 10 times a day using bogus phone numbers like 1-111-111-1111 or 1-222-222-2222. They never leave a message on your answering machine. So, if you're at work during the day, you don't know who's calling. Of course, the phone numbers are bogus, so you can't return the phone call when you get home from work and happen to see it on your called ID. A few times when we checked our voice mail messages, we got the tail-end of a "computer-generated" partial message to which one could never identify the caller.

Finally, one evening we picked up the phone and after getting a computer-generated message that says, "If you are Mr. Or Mrs. So and so, please dial 1. We pushed No. 1 and we waited and waited for another message that said, one of our customer service representatives will be with you shortly. So we waited another minute or two. We then asked, who the heck are you and what do you want? The customer service representative was a young lady who did tell us the name of the company and the company they were collecting the debt for. They were collecting for a credit card company for a credit card that we had. Guess what folks! Our account with the credit card company was current.

We had only missed one payment to the credit card company due to a family member having surgery and the loss of a job. This is just another way the credit card companies are coming after people due to the economy! They're using whatever tactics they can to make sure they get their money. Seems to us that if this ENCORE company was on the up-and-up, they would leave their correct phone number for people to call them back!

We reported their tactics to the Federal Trade Commission, but haven't received any response from them either.
