Popeye's Chicken
Raincheck for $4.99 eight-piece chicken deal not honored

Miscellaneous

Popeyes ran a promotion on April 22, 2009: eight pieces of chicken for $4.99. After work I stopped by, and the place was packed with people hoping to get the deal. Because the store ran out of food, an employee stood outside and wrote down the names of those who left empty-handed. The young woman who took mine said the rainchecks had to be redeemed within a week, and she asked whether I wanted one box or two. I asked for two.

Since I had guests coming today and meant to serve them 16 pieces of Popeyes chicken, I phoned the restaurant on Sunday, 04/26, to confirm the raincheck would be honored. The manager told me corporate has to set up the registers so they charge $4.99, and that rainchecks could only be used on Tuesday. I find that nonsense. Anyone with common sense could have predicted this crowd for such an advertised offer, and the restaurant should have had a backup plan in case supplies ran short.

In my view this was false advertising. An employee of the restaurant itself promised me a one-week window, and now that promise is not being respected. I want them to honor my raincheck as their employee described it, because not everybody can get to the store on this particular Tuesday.
