Dr. Beau House excessive charges and unnecessary surgery suggestions

My Basssett Hound was involved in play-fighting with my other dog and accidentally had his ear torn half off! The bleeding was so bad and the poor dog's ear was hanging limply.

Of course this happened at night when my regular vet was closed for the day so I had to wrap his head in towels and rush him to affiliated pet emergency. This happened late at night and after waiting endlessly in their office, dr. Beau house emerged with the sad news that my dog was to lose half his ear permanently!"Why can't he have stitches"? I asked. "The stitches would not hold and the blood flow to the bottom half of his ear would be inadequate" I was told. The cost of removing the bottom half of his ear was $955! I refused this advice, saying I would take him to my own vet the next day and just wanted to leave him there for observation overnight and for them to stop the bleeding.

The next morning I picked him up and was charged $303 for overnight stay and a head bandage. Took him straight to my vet and she stitched him up and only charged me $270! He is doing great, the stitches are out and you can't tell the damage that was done to him.

I think it is TERRIBLE that these "emergency" places rip you off so much... If I had let them take care of him my poor dog would be left with half an ear and I would have been out several hundred dollars!
