United Steel Buildings
Very deceptive!

My husband and I called around pricing steel buildings - a 50'X90' with 4 garage doors and 3 entry doors - we were specific as to where these doors would be located. When we called United Steel the salesman "Woody" told us he had just what we wanted already in production (another customer had, had to default) so we would get a discount.

We asked to be sent drawings and was told no drawings are sent until they receive a deposit. Okay we continued pricing, block vs. Steel etc. A couple days later we receive a call from "Woody" they are fixing to pull that building from production unless they get a deposit and we would also miss the discount.

We send the deposit ($7000.00) and shortly receive the drawings, a generic drawing at best of a box and instructions to draw the doors on and have them approved by our building code inspector and send back. Which I did.

We were stunned when we received a fax requesting more money for our revisions - 50% due now. We called the engineer Jack! What changes - I drew on the doors agreed upon - nothing new.By adding the doors to the building, it no longer met building code and would have to have a wind column added. Jack even took it upon himself to call our inspector, but there are no codes in our county!!!

We tried to talk to "Woody" so he could straighten this out - our building was in production, just like we wanted - our calls were intercepted and we were informed we didn't need to talk to "Woody" he no longer had our paperwork. Okay then send us back our money, they refused. My husband told them we would see them in court for fraud - she replied, "go ahead, there are no fraud laws in Florida."

What good would a building and doors do us if they are not attached???

We are still trying to get our deposit back, and have ran into others in the same situation. If you have any dealings with these people run away.

I am happy to say we had to purchase a building elsewhere cause our lease is up in April, it was delivered on time with no price increases and when we mentioned the location of our doors, they knew we needed a wind column and put it in the initial price. That's the way it should have been, United makes more money by keeping the deposit and not delivering a building.
