I/O Magic
Has a bogus warranty

I bought a $70 I/O Magic DVD Writer at Office Max on 8/14. It started clanging inside. On 4/12 I took it along with the receipt back to Office Max.
The sales lady told me it's out of warranty so I will now have to contact the manufacturer.
She said since it is not one of "their" products so it has a 14 day warranty. Anything after that and you have to go through the manufacturer.
She wouldn't exchange it. This is the 2nd one of these Writers I have had. The first one went out in under a year and a different Office Max exchanged it.
I came home, called Office Max for the contact information for I/O Magic and she said she'd never even heard of them!
I looked up I/O Magic on the internet and received an RMA# from them. The DVD Writer I sent back had Light Scribe on it and was 18x. The I/O representative asked me if I'd like a 20x without the Light Scribe and I said Okay.
Now less in less than 1 year this burner has started clanging but I/O Magic said they will not do anything because they go by the date of the first DVD Writer I bought and that would be out of warranty.
She also said if our policy wasn't like this you'd be turning one in every year and getting it replaced.
I said, "Not if it would work I wouldn't."
This says a lot about their company and products. They don't intend for them to last much more than a year.
