I chose a coat from the rack, knowing that all coats were 60% off. When I checked out, I was surprised at how high the price was. The salespeople were very nice and went to check. They told me the original price was $350, which sounded really high for this particular coat. (I'd seen the coat elsewhere for much less) I went home and found the coat on the Macy's website, where the original price was stated to be $255 and the sale price $127. I know that you can often get lower prices online, but $100 is quite a jump for the in-store price. I also noticed on the Macy's in-store coats that many tags had no price at all or there was an exorbitantly high price only on a sticker but not printed on the tag. This got my attention and aroused suspicion since it appeared that there was no printed original price, thus allowing it to be changed. The coat was available online at other sites with original price listed as $255 also, so it looks like price-gouging to me.
