Rock Tops Granite... Hmmm. I'm sure this name rises a few eye brows for more than a few people. I am a former employee of this company and also a victum of this company. I was working a not so great job when I found this "dream job" on Craig's list. I was very worried about working for this company right off the rip. Everything seemed too good to be true. The salary, the over time, the benefits, everything, But with a little reassurance from the person in charge of hiring they got me to come in and work for them. I started working for Rock Tops at the end of July. I was there the day they were moving granite in off the truck. I was the 1st person to answer the phones at this location. I was there working on folding tables because we were just opening here in the Cleveland area.

The job seemed amazing. I was working 60 hrs a week and grossing $1000 a week which is amazing for a young wife and mother. Then in late September maybe early October I was told that the company was not allowing overtime any longer. Which was OK with me. I would still get by and was honestly getting a bit burnt out.

After I found out that we were not allowed overtime any longer, 4 days later we found out that EVERY person working for Rock Tops was going to have to take a 15% pay cut. I was upset but I stayed. I was thankful to have a good steady job in the tough economy and I was happy there with the company and the people I worked with. They were like family to me. So then I went from $1000/week to just about $400/week.

While working there customers trusted the company enough to do business with us by paying IN FULL before they even saw any granite in their house. Customers who had a problem with the policy shopped else where. There were no exceptions! We were told to let the customers know that we have had over 100,000 installs agree with our policies and that we were not going to "pack up" and "go anywhere". Little did any of us know that we were going to pack up but we were going to go somewhere. Which I will explain.

On December 15th I went to work as normal. My installers were out on the road, my salesmen were just getting in for the day and as a favor my measure guy was out on installs because we were short handed. Our sales manager then received a call from the owner Robert "Charlie" Theid. The sales manager stepped out of the office to talk to him. He then came back into the office looking a bit upset. We, knowing each other so well, asked what was wrong. The owners left innocent people to do their "dirty" work. One of my salesmen looked at him and said jokingly "What are we all fired" and the sales manager didn't know what to say. He was just in Awww. He then looked at myself and the salesman and told him yeah, yeah you are, I'm so sorry guys. I thought Charlie was joking when he told me. I'm sorry guys but this is it. I asked him "right now? Today? They just told you to send us home?" He said yes. We also found out that we were not getting paid that day. That our checks would be sent to us tomorrow. So the sales manager was left to work in the office alone.

Over the course of the next few days we found out by word of mouth that we may not be getting paid at all, depending on the type of bankruptcy the company would file. That we would know more by Friday December 19th. The owners were going to meet with a lawyer and then they would let us know what to do.

Friday rolls around and the owners call the offices and tells everyone, Lock the doors, put up a "closed for the holidays" sign, and to leave out of the buildings. So the guys did just that.in the mean time there was NO way to contact the corporate office, the owners, the managers, the locations, NOTHING! They just "packed up and left". Left their employees with TONS of questions and ditched out on MULTIPLE kitchens and bathrooms, un-cut, un-installed, but PAID IN FULL!

By the beginning of the next week I found out that we were not getting paid for the 2 remaining weeks that we were to be paid for.

Today I found out that I was denied my unemployment because "I lied" about the time I worked for Rock Tops. That there was NO RECORD of me working after December 7th. We were pay rolled through ADP Total source (which I may add had absolutly NOTHING to do with all of this mess). I contacted them today only to find out that Rock Tops ended their relationship with ADP on December 6th and let them know that as of December 7th NO ONE was working for Rock Tops Granite any longer. WHICH IS A BIG FAT GIANT LIE! I would love to know how the owners Robert "BOB" Gazarowski and Robert "CHARLIE" Theid sleep at night knowing what they have done to so many employees and customers.

I have also heard through the grape vine today that the 2 owners have possibly moved to the Naples Florida area and are gearing up to open another company. WATCH OUT! I want to make it known to the BBB, to the News, to future employees, future customers, future distributers, to WHO EVER to watch out for these guys. I would also like to let it be known that honestly we as employees never intended to take money from innocent customers with out making sure that their jobs were 100% installed and they were happy. I should not have to apologize on behalf of this NASTY company but I do. I really feel your pain. I know how it feels to be screwed over by this company. I hope it all works out for all of you. Also, If this helps any... If you paid on your credit card you can DISPUTE the charges and get your money back. As far as cash payments or checks I do not have any advise.
