Over-charged, drug out, price gouged

I used this company on July 31 to move from a second floor condo to a basement apartment about 5 miles apart. The two man crew and truck arrived at 9am. The contents of the move was 1 bedroom suite, 1 dining room suite, one televisiion, 1 television stand, a 5 piece dinette set, large glass curio cabinet, small glass curio cabinet, a loveseat, a very small chaise lounge, and boxes and odds and ends. There were zero appliances moved.

It took the crew 7 hours to load the truck which is a ridiculously long time to load these items. Melvin and Bilal were the two men crew, and Melvin complained most of the day about how hard the job was and then went on to tell me he does this everyday 6 days a week. If that is the case, he should have been able to knock out this very simple move in no time. He kept huffing and puffing all day. The plan was to first unload items at the basement apartment and then go to a very easily accessable storage unit and unload the rest. This should have been no big deal as I told them exactly what was going to storage and had them load it first and then exactly what was going to the apartment and told them to load it second so as not to waste time as I was being charged by the hour at a rate of $108.00 per hour.

Melvin went over the contract with me and explained that if the move took longer than 8 hours it would go into overtime at a rate of $162.00 per hour. I told him I could not imagine it taking 8 hours and both of the crew members laughed at me like they knew they were doing to drag it out as long as they could. We finally left the condo about 7 hours later and by the time they unloaded at both places the move took approximately 10 hours. It had taken so long that my brother n law went to the storage unit with them and helped them unload in an effort to cut down on time.

They day after I moved, I discovered they dropped my computer because it had mud all over it, but they never told me they did that. My main concern is that what should have been a $600.00 move at the most, turned into a $1147.00 move which is outrageous. I am basing this on the fact that I moved into the condo in 2000 from Lavergne. We had to load some items from a house and some items from storage in that move also. Lavergne is about 18 miles away from the condo and, including drive time, I was completely moved in 4 hours and had twice as much furniture in that move and it all had to be moved going upstairs.

I believe I was severely taken advantage of and believe that this move was drug out so that the company could get as many hours as possible. I called to complain on Friday August 1st and spoke to Cary. He said he would check on the issue and call me back that afternoon, which he never did. I called him back on Wednesday August 6th and he still had no resolution and that he would call me back that afternoon, which he never did.

I filed a Better Business Bureau Complaint shortly thereafter and they only answered it after it being closed and reopened on December 15th. I never asked for the move to be FREE, but I did ask for it to be lowered to a reasonable price. I asked for a $500.00 refeund. I got nothing except a flimsy apology. Take my advise... Do not use this companyyou will be ripped off!!!
