When purchasing a new PDA or "smart phone" from Verizon you are now required to sign-up for their unlimited data plan for $29.99 minimum. This is on top of whatever your voice plan is. You cannot pay by the amount you use. Even if phone has built in WIFI, you cannot avoid the charge.
Verizon is strong arming its customers. They have great coverage and know it. For many, there simply is no other viable carrier due to coverage issues. They use this fact to bully people into coughing up at least an extra $700 plus for a service you might not want or need, as WIFI is plenty for some.
Verizon can burn in hell as long as this policy is in effect. Bring on the lawyers.
