Family ties mean NOTHING to them

We gave 2 deposits. One for $1000 and the other for $5230. Two days later, he was in jail... Again. I was quick enough to stop pay on the 2ND deposit, but he got away with the 1st. Needless to say, I e-mailed, faxed, mailed and left messages at EVERY number I had and still have not heard from anyone.

Did I mention... We're FAMILY. Through marriage, but they say "If you can't trust your family, who can you trust". He did my brothers tile and it's beautiful. Of course NOW they tell me it was a pain to get it done. They also say "No one can screw you over like family" but they didn't say this before I hired them. Luckily, it was only $1000 (not that it was EXTRA) and not the $5230. I have no idea what to do now or who to contact. I have no problem getting in line with the rest of them... But where do I go from here?
