Did not refund Rental Deposit

Mr Messina owned rental property in Mandeville, LA. We rented from him prior to hurricane Katrina and put a large deposit on the property. After the hurricane, we verbally agreed to go our separate ways since he had family/friends that needed a place to stay because there homes were damaged.

I went ahead and hastily moved my family quickly to support this. There was only a short period of time left on the lease. I could have just as well paid out by lease because of the loss on the deposit but he probably would not have paid it back then either. He does not respond to calls. I could file locally against this guy and probably get wages but I am out of state. This makes this difficult.

My only option is to make his life a pain. Do not trust this person in business dealings. If he will screw someone after a disaster that helps his friends and family then he will screw you in his regular real estate related transactions.
