False Advertising

The ad in the "Penny 5aver" 15-21 Jan '08 had a coupon for a "Complete Dental Exam (new patient offer) for $19 (reg $165). Complete Exam, X rays with 2 bite wings, cleaning in absence of gum disease, consultation and periodontical eval. 1 Feb'08 was my appointment at 11:00 hrs I got there at 10:40 and was finally put it the exam chair at 11:50 hrs. I was counseled after the xrays and exam that my teeth need a "deep" cleaning and because I have some gum tenderness I have some gum disease, so I cannot have their "special."

Dr. Toma then proceeds to tell me that I need a root canal, $1800, a deep cleaning $850, I have a loose filling that needs to be replaced $1200. Then since my canines (teeth on each side of my two front teeth) are sticking out, braces! $2k and up! Invisalign being the most expensive at over $4k. He would not let them do the above surface cleaning like it stated on the coupon because of his diagnosis. Knowing my teeth could not be that bad off and that this is probably one of those bait and switch tactics (false advertising with no intention to follow through with the cleaning on anyone at the advertised price), I made an appt. On 6 Feb '08 with the Dentist at Balboa Naval Center and had them check me out. My teeth are fine he said. I did have one the 2-19 which he said was slightly loose but fine for now. Gum disease? I did'nt have any. Need for deep cleaning also nada. It's really a shame that a place that the receptionists seem so nice can be a trap to try and get you to fork over big $!

This place I was told has been here a while 8 years, still after that false advertising ad, they had the nerve to submit the same thing the following week! I would not recommend anyone to that business as they are not interested in one's health but making a profit. They are not honest at all just another money grubbling scheemer!!!
