Walgreens Pharmacy
Walgreens - Pharmacy prescriptions have come up short on more than one occassion - narcotics - no response

Miscellaneous

I have all my prescriptions filled at one Walgreens. More than once the count on the number of pills has come up short. Usually 5-8 pills. I thought this was just a mistake on their part and no big deal until it happened again and then again. I called the Walgreens where this is happening and asked to speak to the manager of the pharmacy. I was told he was on vacation for 2 weeks. I left my number for a return call but no one has called yet. The person I called last time this happened assured me that I must be wrong as the pharmacist checks every prescription after a tech fills it. I know this is not true because I have a friend who works as a tech for another Walgreens. He says that most of the time the pharmacist just assumes the tech counted correctly and circles the count on the label because they are really busy. The circle around the number of pills on the label signifies that the pharmacist actually re-counted the pills and is responsible for it's accuracy. The tech's friends at other Walgreens (also techs) say that this practice is commonplace at Walgreens. The Pharmacists complain that they don't have time to count again and tell the techs to "be absolutely sure" the prescription is correct.
I don't know if someone is pocketing the drugs for personal use or they just have someone working that doesn't know how to count but something isn't right and Walgreens doesn't seem very concerned about it. It could be something very innocent or something very dark but something is going on.
At this point all I can say is "Make sure you count your prescription BEFORE you leave the prescription window", if you experience the same problem as I have been having.
It's not the question of money but in my case it's the misuse of prescription narcotics. The pills I take are about $30 apiece on the street I am told which would explain why mine might be disappearing before they get to me.
I actually accused my son of taking some of them and I did not believe him when he denied it. He was angry. He happened to be home one day after that incident when I came in with my new refill from Walgreens. He asked me to open them right there in front of him and count the number of pills. I did and it was 5 pills short. I counted again and came up with the same number—5 pills short of the 60 CIRCLED on the label. It had happened again and now I was sure that this was no longer a random event. I apologized to my son and called Walgreens immediately which started all of this. The chance of this happening to the same customer numerous times at random is very remote. The fact that it involves narcotics is especially disturbing. Let's see if Walgreens does anything. Any bets???
