Real Estate and Rental Scam

We were looking to rent, and found a few listings on Craigslist Hresno we liked. We were shown property, empty. And paid our deposit to move in 1st month. On that date went to move in person living there claiming already paid Landlord, Monia Enterprises/Investments Dwane and Dino Monia. When this was relayed to them, after two weeks gave money back inform of a bad check.

We are not first apparently as now DA nsf department and bureau of Consumer Affairs are involved. Unfortuneately California does not have an escrow law as to deposits so we except for the DAs help would have lost a few thousand dollars
