Collection Company Of America
How is this possible?

I received a letter in the mail from Collection Company of America (CCA). Being someone that pays all of their bills on time every month, my heart sank.

I opend the letter and it stated that my account with Verizon Wireless has gone into collections with a total of $115.86... $91.23 was the principal and 24.63 was their fee for collecting the debt.

They (CCA) gave me 3 different options on paying the debt - mail it in, pay by phone, or pay online. The online address was www.paymybill.com.

The odd thing about all of this is I have never had an account with Verizon Wireless! So I called the number on the letter to find out what it was about.

A man answered and asked for the account number given in the letter. Then he asked if that was me. I told him it was, but there were a few spelling errors in my name.

He then gave me the last 4 digits of a social security number and asked if they were mine. I told him no. He told me that it must have been a mistake and since the name was spelled wrong it had nothing to do with me.

When I asked why was this letter sent to MY address, with MY name (or almost my name... Too many similarities for my liking), he didn't have any kind of an answer. He kept repeating just disregard the letter.
