Charterstone financial group, stewart thompson and craig bennet trusting, embarassed, single mom scammed out of $1500.in more debt than before, cant pay rent now. Just wanted better credit!

I am a single mom, and have never owned a credit card or have had a loan from a bank. This making it hard to be approved for anything due to my low credit.

I owe on medical bills and few small amount bills, and make payments on my vehicle which is in my ex-husbands name. I needed the loan to pay off medical bills, and be able to pay off vehicle loan, improve my credit, and to be able to say I did it on my own.

I recieved a phone call from Craig Bennet who said he was a broker, working with Charterstone Financial group, a company who finds lenders to give people loans with bad or low credit.

He said I was approved for a $5000.00 loan, but because of my low credit score I would need to secure the first 6 months payments.interest rate at 6%, monthly payments would be $151.94, starting in May. I went to staples to get the faxed loan agreement, wich looked legit. Signed, and faxed back.

I was able to come up with the 911.00 to secure loan. They said I needed to wire the money in order to recieve loan into my checking acct. The next day. Otherwise I would have to wait up to 2 weeks to recieve my loan if I chose the option of having them recieve my 911.00 by mail or credited out of my account.

I was so excited about getting the loan that it blocked any questions or concerns about the possibility of this being a scam. I believed I was finally going to get ahead without borrowing money from family and it was well in my budget to afford the payments.

So off to my local walmart I went and wired the $911.00 along with the fee. An hour later I spoke with Craig Bennet, and he congratulated me on my new loan and then offered me tips to better my credit score and said my $5000.00 would be in my acct. Before 5pm the next day.

Next day came and to my suprise, no money in my acct. I called and spoke with Craig Bennet, who was just as suprised as me, and could not tell me why or what happened, because he doesn't recieve that info. I became upset and was referred to his supervisor Stewart Thompson who would be able to tell me what happened.

I talked with Stewart and he informed me that certain lenders require more money to secure if the applicant has such a low credit score and that Craig bennet has nothing to do with my file once it has been processed, therfore not knowing the lender may require more money.

I then started arguing with Stewart and he was very rude to me saying that I am lucky to have this loan offered to me because of my credit and I would never be able to get a loan anywhere else due to my credit history, which he was right about that because I have tried at local banks.

I went back and forth with him and he explained the whole economy and lenders being more cautious to loan to people with bad credit due to the recent change in stocks and the whole economy the way it is, and lenders making sure they will get their money paid back.

They wanted another $911.00, which was impossible for me to get so they credited me $300.00 and I had to come up with the remainder $600.00 and the $300 would be put at the end of my loan.

As hard as it was, I came up with the $600.00, and wired it again, being told this was it, and my file could not be re-assessed, and there wouldn't be any more problems. Next day came, no money in account again! This was a friday 10/24. I called and no answer, left messages and no call back.

On monday 10/27 I recieved a call from Stewart Thompson, I was at work so he left a message. I was finally able to have contact with him and he was very sorry and explained that he was with attorneys all day concerning my file and others as well, stating that the lender got cold feet and backed out of agreement due to my credit.

At this point I searched scams on internent and saw his name and company name and relized I was scammed, I told him what I thought of him and said Im on computer now and can see reports made about them being scammers. He then said that they can sue for slander and most of these reports are angry clients like myself who have not waited the two weeks to recieve the full return of all money wired and they never go back and report they were not scammed. He also said that most people do not put contact info on these reports, otherwise they chartersone could sue them for slander.

I said I could not wait for the money because I trusted this was legit and paid off some bills with my paycheck, and paid more then what I had in my acct, knowing the loan would be there. My own fault for spending money before it was there, but I just knew it was not a scam.

He then put me on hold, and stated that he liked me and felt like an ass for this happening and that his company was suing the lender for breaching their contract, which made them breach mine and giving Charterstone a bad name and consumer reports being filed because of this lender. He said he made arrangments for my refund plus a $1000.00 credit for the inconvience would be in my account by Wednesday 10/29/08. He also said to save any late fees, overdraft fees, or anything that has put me in more debt because of this. His company will recieve a large settlement when they go to court over breach of contract on me and 15 other cases. And I will recieve part of the settlement since I was affected as well. He said I would get something in the mail about this, but unsure of date because they might settle out of court.

So I was feeling better because he made it sound so believable that I didn't file a report on the company. Today is wednesday, no refund in acct. Called Charterstone and I cannot get through. It says, thankyou. Goodbye. So here I am doing a report and broke and not being able to pay back money borrowed to secure my loan!!! My rent is in two days and I have nothing!!! I know I won't see that money again, but what can we do to stop these heartless people?
