Surprise, your checking account/credit card is billed for a subscription you were fooled into accepting through an infomercial

My checking account statement had a Bill Payment - Withdrawal for the WallST Jrnl which I had been receiving on a trial basis, but was never alerted that the trial period would soon run out and then I was going to be billed. The withdrawal was for $215.

I called the 800 number, which was totally automated. When the selection for cancellation came up, I was given the first option, which was that the subscription would be cancelled, and I would only receive those issues I had paid for. Yes or No. I said, "Yes." However, once I thought about it I realized that I didn't want that option, but rather that it should be cancelled forthwith-no more issues, and the payment refunded.

Unfortunately, the automated system they have set up does not allow you to change your mind about any cancellation choice.

After trying many different approaches, including making a new order, none of which worked, I contacted the Wall Street Journal, and told them about my dilemma, and they courteously stopped delivery of any more issues, but told me I would have to deal with MSC about any refund.in a flash of inspiration, I asked for a phone number for MSC, and the person at WJ gave me, " (800) 641-3445."

I called that number and magically a live person eventually appeared, and I was able to resolve the problem.

So, write down that number and feel free to use it-it works!
