Miscellaneous

So I responded to this job on careerbuilder. It was odd because they responded extremely quick. But I just thought that maybe they we're just really short of help or something of that nature. So I went into an interview, and found it odd where they we're placed. The place was kind of known for being mostly for auto repair places. Anyways I found the place in a dinky little office with generic photographs hanging out on the wall. I met the secretary named Kat/Kit, I don't know. She was nice but I was joined by 3 other applicants in small hallway/room. It was odd, but I still didn't think too much of it.

So I got my interview and I met with Will the head manager of the place. He didn't really tell me much about the job except that we helped to support D.A.R.E. And other children's type charities. So I was like, alright that sounds okay. The interview went kind of normal except that it only lasted a mere 5 minutes. So I went home and found out that I had gotten a callback for the next day. Still that didn't set off any flags.

So come the next day. Now the true nature of things began to take shape. I got there early in the morning and found 4 other applicants there. There was cult like cheering going in the backroom. I sat in the hallway/room till Will came and showed us a video. This is when I definitely started to realize something was up. The video was a set up of people saying how easy it was to come up in the business and get promoted to a general manager and how you'd be making six figures in only a couple of months. The video was an indicator of things to come because of the production of the video, and how cheap the company was when they couldn't afford an actual office to fit all there employees. So the video finished and out came there cult like employees from the backroom. They we're cheering and high fiving. Sorry over the top excitement is almost always an indication of something being severely wrong.

So Will took me back to his office to meet with my training leader. My training leader took me to meet the driver and we set off. Here's where it got even more shady. I thought we we're gonna go to maybe a community center or maybe some D.A.R. E event. No. We traveled across town (we'rent compensated for gas) and set up a table in front of a CVS. We basically started to sell cheap D.A.R. E products and 2 non dare products which I didn't get. Once my trainer started to explain to me how the business worked, I realized, this is some sort of weird elaborate pyramid scheme. Except instead of giving them money, your giving them cheap labor. And when I say cheap labor, I mean below minimum wage. I stayed around only cause I left my car half way across town. We had no breaks. Awesome. That's legal for working more than 8 hours. We went from 9am to about 7pm. I told Will I'd take the job, just to entertain him. Then I got home and quickly read up on the reports on rip off report. Yes they are related to the one in Virginia Beach. Everything that you've read about them before is true.
