$300 Gas Rebate card? Don't believe it

A solicitor for EZ-1-Rate called me at work and promised $300 in gasoline certificates/coupons for trying the long-distance telephone service. The solicitor neglected to mention that only state-to-state calls are included in the EZ-1-Rate package; long distance calls within a state are not included. That's bad enough, but it turns out the $300 gasoline coupons were not coupons at all, but merely an "invitation code" to go sign up for a suspicious www.gasupamerica.net service that promises to send out rebates once a month if you perfectly complete marketing surveys and, oh, by the way, actually sign up for yet more "offers" from their marketers.
The EZ-1-Rate service itself may be perfectly legitimate, and perhaps worthwhile for people who make lots of interstate calls. The people I spoke with at EZ-1-Rate were reasonably courteous and responsive when I called to cancel the service. However, the $300 gas rebate turned out to be a far cry from the simple coupons described, and too risky for me to be interested in wasting time and effort.
