Rude, deceptive, misleading and unable to answer my questions

I received a letter from American Acceptance, LLC stating that because I was gainfully employed I was in a position to pay a debt for a Citibank account. When I called I spoke with Mary Adams, the apparent paralegel working my case.

Mary informed me that the account was being held by a law firm for garnishment. I started to ask questions regarding the account, and she got short with me and interrupted me. I tried to explain that this account was fraudulent, but she insisted that payments were made on the account so that there was no way that the account was fraudulent.

When I asked for the law firms information she replied "You will get that information soon enough." and hung up. I called back and let the receptionist know that Mary had been rude to me. I tried to explain that I needed the information about the law firm so I could look into this matter she said "Well Mary is the only one with that information, we can't help you, so don't call back.

So, with no place to turn I called Citibank. Citibank had no record of the account in question, because the debt was from 1999. The debt had changed hands several times, and I called all the the agencied that had held the debt, but no one knew where the account was held after June 200.

I then pulled out recent copies of my credit report and discovered that this account was not even listed on my credit reports from all three agencies. I tried calling Mary Adams back, but was told that she was away from her desk and that I could leave a message. The receptionist kindly took my name and number, but I have yet to be contacted.

I believe this is a total scam, these people are trying to collect on a debt that no longer exists. And when people try and resolve the issue they are rude and combative.
