MCM Attempting to collect nonexistent debt AND Los Angeles AND California

MCM contacted me by mail attempting to collect $1,431.50 for a CitiBank credit card account. I have NEVER held a CitiBank account and CitiBank has verified that no-one with my SSN has ever had an account nor does this debt show up on any credit reports. MCM, however, does seem to have my SSN.

I have filed a police report, opened a case with the FTC and filed Fraud Alerts with all three credit agencies. I sent MCM certified letters at both their addresses requesting their files on this nonexistent debt; the only answer I received was a letter from their Consumer Relations Department (800-825-8131 ext. 2980) demanding that I supply THEM with paperwork to back up my "dispute".

They even had the nerve to tell me that they'd "changed the status of this account to Disputed with the three major consumer credit reporting agencies"! Needless to say nothing from MCM has appeared on any credit report.

I wish I could show you all one of the letters they send out; they read like ads from a cheap used car lot. "Special this month only! Settle for 75% off, 50% off or 25% off the original amount!".
