A few Facts and Myths about our Beloved AAFES...

"It Costs AAFES millions to ship it overseas... Thats why its so expensive."
FACT: Military airlift and sealift commands transport AAFES Goods at NO COST."

"The AAFES Employees in the middle-east make alot of Money."
FACT: A VERY LARGE Majority of AAFES Employees in the middle-east are third country nationals making less than minimum wage.

Cigarettes sold by AAFES overseas are tax exempt (State AND Federal)
this equates to ~13.75 or more (depending on state)
They cost as much if not more than they do in the states.
They accept this as a "Sin Profit"

I Personally have had an AAFES employee tell me "If you don't like it, Go Somewhere else..." They have a Lockdown Monopoly on Military Bases here. Read: there is "nowhere else".
I equate it to owning the only "canteen" in a Prison and charging what I want for Smokes...

Myth "AAFES Allows outside vendors... So its not a Monopoly."
FACT: Outside vendors are charged 30% of their GROSS Sales BY AAFES...
So vendors from outside cannot compete. $1.00 product costs approx $1.47

It is out and out Robbery, the troops are the ones paying. And our congress sits there and does nothing while the soldiers are raped at the register.
