I felt as close to being a winner than I have ever felt before on a scam

Miscellaneous

I received this at an old address, my daughter in law called me to let me know that I had received a check in the mail for $4900.00 that was made out to me in order to pay taxes on a major win of 100,000.00.

The check looks so real that anyone who did not stop to remember the ole saying...* if it looks to good to be true... Chances are it is! *. Being one that doesn't trust anything with out question, I was not at all surprised at what I have learned.

I called the person named as my claims agent or rather the charactor that is protraying such. His name was Mr. Tom James. Ok, so when I called a man answered, you would expect the normal business type noises in the background, you would expect a cheerful greeting, you would expect at the least * CONGRADULATIONS * on being a major winnings with such and such would you not?

What I experienced in the call was, complete lack of emotion, lack of business professializim, ect. Keep in mind that the address on the check is from the states USA, the letter that was with the check is addressed a different address: Nocturne Financial Incorporated, 550 Bay St, Toronto Ontario Canada, M9P7C1.

The person on the phone with me, did not sound Canadian, American. He sounded pretty much like some one from India or Iran, some where like that. Great example of what he sounded like, call for instructions on how to operated your cell phone, or new computer. Ha!

Any way, I am suppose to either cash or deposit the check, it doesn't actually tell me which I am to do, then keep $1000.00 of it as partical winnings, while paying the remaining balance of $3900.00 by either MoneyGram or Western Union directly to the *tax agent*.!?!

Then the winning process is done I would then receive the remaining of my 100,000.00 which is the sum of 95,100.00. Delivered to me by UPS...

This is just to beautiful, worded almost perfectly, and sadly some one will most likely fall for it.

Your suppose to call the claim agent before you attempt to use the check. There is a second persons name on the letter as well, * Promotion Manager *, who's name is Mrs. Sharon Owens. Who's signature doesn't look anything like the words sharon owens. Then you have a signature on the check it's self that isn't hand written, which isnt odd, but looks like it might be some one elses name * Stephen A. (either-Aelon or Allon).

I emailed the bank it is supposed to be made from right, (castle bank in Dekalb Il) they tell me it's a fraud check. Sigh! And to send them the check and any paperwork I have concerning this. When I made a copy of the check guess what comes through on the copy of the check, but can't see on the original check... The words VOID imprinted all over the check.

Sigh!!! And I was wanting a new RX-8 too!

So... Please people if you receive anything in the mail that states you have won money * major amount or not* please please think before you take it to the bank. First off: How many times have you EVER paid taxes on money you had/have not received yet? Second off: How many times have you paid any due taxes to the USA by MONEYGRAM or WESTERN UNION. Third off: Who in their right minds would send a check for 95,100.00 by UPS?!!!

People like these that are scamming people are *censored*. They are the ones with no souls, heart, and hopefully soon NO FREEDOM. They feed off those that do not have understanding of what they are reading, or believe all mankind are good honest folk.

I knew it was exactly what it is as soon as I heard the person on the other end of the phone, but that didn't stop my day dreaming about a new RX-8... Spite that person NEVER asking me, referring to, or stating at any point would I be sending any money to any one except to the tax agent...

My sudden question is this. If I had been the type that believes and trusts easily, had cashed/deposited this check, then called the (claims agent as the letter instructed) had went to my local corner tax mans office to pay my tax amount... How was this company coughSCAMMERcough suppose to make money off my ignorance???

Guess I am just to honest of a person to be able to understand that aye!

Best Wishes and Good Luck to ALL!
