On Thursday, June 5, a sales person, named: Hue Vang, from Norhtern Aire Industry demonstrated several productions, including the FILTERQUEEN Defender medical recirculation air cleaner to my parents.

My parents were impressed with the cleaner and were interested in purchasing one. However, both of them thought the MSRP of $1,198 was too expensive for them. My parents said they could not afford to spend that much on the machine. The sales person said that he could work something out with my parents. He asked how much my parents were willing to pay for the system. My parents said they could not spend more than $500. Hue called his boss, who agreed to authorize this price for my parents, so my parents decided to purchase the air cleaner. They agreed to pay $500 plus tax. My mother also decided to opt for the six-month, no payment, no interest finance plan that Hue offered. Hue enrolled my mother in the financing plan through GE Money Bank. Hue said he would deliver the product the following day, Friday, June 6. Hue did not show up at my parents house the following day, Hue did not contact my parents for couple of days, nor did he leave a business card or any kind of phone number. Hue later said, in a phone conversation on Tuesday, June 10, that the company did not allow their employees to give out their phone numbers, but would rather have customers call their home office. However, he also did not give my parents the home office phone number. On June 10 Hue showed up around 9:30 A.M. At my parents house to deliver the product. Both of my parents were not home. Hue entered my parents house, and left a used FILTERQUEEN DEFENDER machine (serial 1025688, model AM4000) and a manual with my sister. The product was delivered without a box, and had obviously been used before as there were scratches on the top and bottom of the machine. Again, Hue did not leave a number, but there was a number for Northern Aire Industry taped to the bottom of the machine. My mother was dissatisfied with the product because she had not been told that she was getting a used machine. When I returned home at 5:30 P.M. That day, she had me call the company to express her dissatisfaction with the product.

The sales person said she had received a used machine because she was only paying $500. I stated that the sales person had never informed my parents that they would receive a used machine. The customer service representative said she could not do anything about this and would have Hue call my mother. Hue did eventually call my mothers home phone number and told her that he had not known that she would be getting a used machine either. My mother said she was dissatisfied with the product and the customer service she had received form the company and wanted to cancel her order at this time. Hue said this would not be possible as it had passed the allotted time for cancellation. The agreement that my mother signed states that she had three business days from the date of signature to cancel the order. My mother argued that if he had delivered the product on Friday, June 6, then she would have had to time to inspect the product and decide to cancel her order within the allotted grace period. I also spoke to Hua and other customer representatives who all gave me the same run-around, saying that we could no longer cancel the order because it had passed the grace period. Hue also told me that this company sells refurbished equipment with a new filter. If this is the case, then he/the company pulled a bait and switch routine on us. The company just did not want to help us. We finally just called GE and cancelled the transaction. The customer representatives and sales representatives at Northern Aire Industry of Plymouth were rude and disrespectful. They also lied to their customers. It is sad and disappointing that companies are allowed to treat customers in this way.
