Why wont car rental companies

Why wont car rental companies allow you to choose the car you want. If it is not busy and their is an opportunity then why not be able to say i want the blue one instead of the white one or this brand instead of that one. It is my money. I am the customer. When i go to a restaurant i can order what i want. When i shop i can buy what i want. Why not with a car. This is one of these ridiculous outdated business practices that destroy companies and someone will figure out how to allow users some choice and they will increase business at the expense of the rigid ones who have morons manning the counter. Think about it.
