Canada upfront payment on loan... Scam!

I posted this at the BBB. On 05-27-08 I submitted upfront payments to a company called harbor lending supposedly out of atlanta ga for a "loan". I was contacted by a mr. Peter hamilton after searching online for tudent/private loans. Peter faxed me a contract, my fiance' and my parents looked at the papers and everything seemed in good order. I found no negative info on this company before hand. Peter informed me that after submitting my application they had found me a private lender out of canada. If I could make the first ten months worth of payments up front (1320.00) as a deposit on the loan, I'd get my founds of 12,000 dollars the next business day. I was unaware that this was an illegal practice.

I was contacted again by a david parer. They then "reviewed" my credit and told me that the first payment wasn't big enough for the insurance company and that i needed to send an additional payment of 1320.00. I informed david that I could not make such a payment and he told me they could give me a credit for half the payment. I sent an additional payment of 700.00 all by moneygram to canada at which time I was informed my funds would be available the next day. The next day David parker called me again and said the insurance company would not accept a payment on my behalf and that I needed to send an additional 620.00 to secure the loan. I attempted to send it via moneygram at which time moneygram alerted us to the possibility of a scam.

We did some more research and found that it was illegal, asked for a refund and have been told it would be mailed via cashiers cheque on June the 24th. On the 23rd we are to be called with a tracking number for the money. I do not believe I will see my money based on other complaints of the exact same nature against this company. I have filed a police report with atlanta and contacted the royal mounted police of canada. They have ruined not only my chances to attend school but also my ability to pay the rent and living expense of my family.
