Shoppers Lotto / Consumers Rewards Program - Asset Financial Services Financial Scam targeting honest, trusting Americans!

When my wife received a notification letter from "Asset Financial Services" on behalf of "Shoppers Lotto Consumers Reward Program" stating that she was a designated winner of $38,000.00, I was immediately skeptical. Along with the letter came what appeared to be an actual check for $3,800.00 made out in her name. I immediately came online to verify all the partied involved to see if they were legitimate businesses or if they were in fact fraudalent. I could not find any of them with the exception of the back that was noted on the check.
Upon doing a google search, I came across several individuals that had received the same letter (and check) as my wife. I called the number on the letter and received the same recording that another person noted (the voicemail is full). I realize now that this is a scam and borders on criminal activity! I would like to know more or to see if an investigation can be launched into this organization trying to scam people. I can only speculate but one guess is that they apparently want peope to deposit the check, call them back with your account number (so you can receive the additional funds) and they then have access to your banking account.
I would strongly encourage anyone who received the same letter to NOT deposit the check! I would also ask that anyone who has a contact or knows someone within the legal system to look into this scam!
