Taunton Financial A Division Of Taunton Corporation
Computerized Ballot System winner from Publishers Clearing House

Miscellaneous

I received a letter in the mail from this company indicating that we have won $57,000 which is unclaimed prize money. The participants were selected through a computerized ballot system drawn from Readers Digest, Publishers Clearing House, Online Sweepstakes, Internet Games, etc. I was given a check which "covers both the administrative payment and clearance fees of your winnings." I had to to call my agent for authorization and processing of my prize. When I called, I was told to deposit the check and as soon as the check cleared to call them back. I have been very suspicious of this since the letter is full of grammatical and spelling errors, but really could use the money which is why I called. I told the representative that I was skeptical and did not believe this. He told me the check I received was to pay for the fees so I didn't have to. When I questioned the authenticity, he mentioned there is a phone number on the check and then I got a dial tone with a recording saying "your call cannot be completed as dialed. Please check the number and try again." When I tried calling the number back again several times, I kept getting a recording stating the number could not go through and to try again later. I've done some research online and it appears there have been other scams similar in nature to this one, but a different company. I'm sure this is a scam and hope I can prevent someone else from going through this and hopefully prevent anyone from losing any money.
