Henderson James Group
HiProfile - Decptive Bait and Swtich Never had one interview then they went out of business

Miscellaneous

I cannot believe I found this site and saw so many horror stories like mine.

After 3 years, I figured that the deceptive practices of Henderson James Group HJG (a.K.A. Rupert Vanderbottom, LLC) and similar companies such as HiProfile were long forgotten.

Spring of I received a phone call from a vice president representing HJG, telling me they had somehow received a copy of my resume and wanted me to come by their Boston office to explore the opportunity. The following is my account, if I am missing something, I am sure others who have fell into the same trap can fill in the blanks.

When I got to the office I am introduced to Dean Maimonis (whom I believe is now a rep at HiProfile). Dean went into this long diatribe about how much I was truly worth and how I needed to uncover the hidden job market. When I asked him about the position I was called in for, he replied that there were numerous positions out there and HJG would help me market myself to these companies. I was invited back to a second interview after it was determined that I was a worthy candidate.

When I asked how much this would cost, I was told it was based on my target salary. Needless to say, I was laid off, getting married in a couple of months and just bought a home. So, despite better judgement I plunked down the first of three equal installments of $2200.00.

The rest of my journey with HJG only gets better. After plunking down the money, I was informed by Dean that we couldnt press on with my hunt until my wife came in to meet with them as well. My wife had to take a half day off from work to meet with this guy, who basically told her the same crap I was fed.

Following this third meeting, I finally met with my rep John Williams, who was nothing more than a half retired, half alert has-been who could care less for my success. We basically spent two weeks re-writing my resume, which when I gave to a colleague to look over, thought it was written by my then 16 year old brother in law. The rest of the time we just wasted time talking about golf and his home in NH.

I was never introduced nor had one interview with any of their supposed clients. Approximately three months after I came into contact with them, I received an email stating that due to deteriorating business conditions, they were no longer able to provide services.

Several phone calls and a report to the BBB was my last interaction with HJG, until coming across this site.

Luckily, I found a job on my own a couple of weeks later, but the thought that there are dozens of other people out there who have been cheated makes me boil.

Thanks.
