They had me put a check in the bank worth 4998.00 and now I owe over 5000 in my bank account

I got a check in the mail that was worth 4,998.00 and I was excited. I was looking for a job at the time so I thought it would be a great opportunity for me since I had just had my first baby. So I called the number and did everything they told me too. Now I'm in debt with my bank 5,000 dollars and I can't afford to buy things for my family. I really can't afford to pay the bank the money. My husband works 2 jobs that don't make enough money to pay rent sometimes. I just didn't think that this would happen to me. I really need help getting the money back.
