Worthless checks, fraud in Georgia

Shane Belton, who was featured in a Rippoff Report item for writing $6,000 in worthless checks to an Ormond Beach resident, perpretrated a similar fraud - but of much greater magnitude - in Georgia, just over 10 years ago (July 1997). Belton, who was involved in buying an selling cars, wrote worthless checks and forged his wife's name on various credit documents for a total scam of more than $750,000 (not a misprint, three-fourths of a million dollars). His wife, Kytra McCary-Belton might be a partner to his latest shenanigans, but she might just be another victim of Belton's ability to charm the diamonds off the back of a rattlesnake. His former wife believed his lies about his business dealings until she discovered that he had forged her name on a second mortgage (she later lost the house), and on an American Express Card for which Belton ran up a debt of more than $200,000 before his scheme came crashing down. He also forged her name on applications for other credit cards, but was able to only run up small balances on those before he was caught. To verify this information, one can obtain - through the Georgia Open Records Act - copies of arrest warrants, etc. From the Crisp Co. Sheriff's Office in Cordele, Ga. (Sheriff Donnie Haralson). Also, Georgia newspapers in Cordele (Cordele Dispatch, Tri-County Informer), Albany (Albany Herald) and Macon (Macon Telegraph) reported his arrest on fraud and theft charges, as did WSST television in Cordele. Residents of the Palm Coast, Ormond Beach and Daytona areas should be wary of any document - especially a check - on which Shane Belton's name appears. And remember, he can charm the habit off a nun.
