Many big American trucking company's in this country have opened up trucking company's in Mexico and hiring Mexican citizen to drive CHEAP BROKEN DOWN JUNK YARD trucks that are now being driven in this country. Many American trucking companies just want cheap labor, so the start trucking company's in Mexico and use the cheap labor that is in Mexico to haul the loads into this country.

Next, I am willing to bet that many of these trucking company's have paid big money to lobbyist to get laws passed so you could have your Mexican cheap labor haul your loads and put the LEGAL AMERICAN truck drivers on the side line.

All you LEGAL AMERICAN citizens better NEVER get hit by a Mexican truck that has no insurance. They most likely will run to the boarder and you will get stuck with all of the damage and medical bills. Try to hire a lawyer to go FETCH the Mexican truck driver that is deep in Mexico hiding! Fat Chance.

Mexican Trucking Program Dealt Serious Blow by Senate Amendment
The Bush Administration's pilot program to allow Mexican trucks open access to American highways was dealt a serious blow Tuesday night, when the Senate passed an amendment to the Transportation Appropriations bill (H.R. 3074) to end funding for the program by a vote of 75 to 23. The Mexican Trucking Pilot Program began in earnest when the first Mexican truck rolled across the Texas border approximately one week ago and headed for North Carolina. The program, run by the U.S. Department of Transportation, allows 500 trucks from up to 100 Mexican trucking firms to pass through the current 25-mile border zone and operate unimpeded throughout the U.S.

Senators Byron Dorgan (D-ND) and Arlen Specter (R-PA) offered the amendment to end funding for the program (S.A. 2797) citing serious safety concerns. According to Sen. Specter, the program was simply not ready to be implemented. "We do not want to impede legitimate commerce, " he said on the Senate floor late Monday. "But safety is a very vital factor, and there are good reasons to insist on safety and verification before we permit this pilot program with 100 trucking companies." (Congressional Record, September 10).

Meanwhile, Senator Dorgan criticized the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which is the legal justification used by the Administration for creating the program. "Everything about NAFTA has gone haywire. All of it has rebounded against this country's interest. And now the latest chapter is to saywe are required to allow long-haul Mexican trucks into this country. Well, we are not required to do that." (Congressional Record, September 11).

Supporting the Administration, Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) offered a competing amendment that would have fully funded the trucking program (S.A. 2842). Justifying his amendment, Senator Cornyn argued that public concern about letting Mexican trucks onto American highways "is not about safety... It's fear of free trade." Senator Trent Lott (R-MS) also voiced support of the Administration program, implying that its opponents were out to undermine U.S. Relations with Mexico. Mexico, the Senator insisted, "is not some enemy satellite sitting on our border." Despite the support of minority leadership, however, Sen. Cornyn's amendment went down to defeat on a vote of 29 to 69.

The actions of Senators Dorgan and Specter followed those of Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) who successfully offered an amendment to the Transportation Appropriations bill in the House barring funds from being used for implementation of the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP). That amendment passed overwhelmingly, 362-63. The Transportation Appropriations bill containing the Dorgan-Specter amendment passed the Senate overwhelmingly on Wednesday morning on an 88 to 7 vote. The next step will be a conference between representatives of the two Houses to reconcile differing versions of the bill. The White House has threatened to veto the Transportation Appropriations bill due to alleged excessive spending.

Statement of Purpose: To prohibit the establishment of a program that allows Mexican truck drivers to operate beyond the commercial zones near the Mexican border.
