JD ByRider I guess I'm a Stupid Co-signer right Ripoff

Ok, about 6-9 months ago I was asked by a friend to help her purchase a vehicle from JD ByRider she chose a 2000 chrysler voyager with the mitsubishi 3.0L 6cyl. Motor, it had power locks and windows and ABS, standard chrysler AM/FM cassette radio and the dual sliding doors and 100k miles. I list these things so that anyone can go to KBB.com and look up it's value in poor or fair condition.

At no point was I told the total sale value of the vehicle, in fact i was told when asked that "oh, well you don't need to worry about that do you she's going to be making the payments. Right? And, you're only co-signing." stupid me I left it at that. I later found out that the sale price was over $12,000 for a vehicle that has a Retail value in fair condition of $4100.

Other conditions of the sale, not only did I have to co-sign, but there was a $500 trade in plus I had to put an additional $1000 in cash down on the deal.

Additionally, once delivery of the vehicle was taken... For the first 4 months the van needed the brakes fixed seemingly every week the rear brakes kept getting stuck, their service people would not check out the system only replace the brake pads, and even then they never seemed to have a technician available to get the van in to get fixed in a reasonable amount of time always setting appointment time 2-3 weeks later then once it was turned in for the appointment they had to keep it there for a few days before it was done... I mean come on if it wouldn't have voided the warranty i could have fixed the problem in a few hours by myself. This is not the only issue with the van, shortly after getting it i told her that the altenator or voltage regulator (built into the alternator) was bad we had to schedule a time for it to get fixed on the first appointment they said oh there is nothing wrong with the van it's just like that when it's cold and the turned up the idle... The problem continued, then next service appointment was 3 weeks later this time the had it for 3 days and finally replaced the altenator (another max one hour job). We had also noticed that the rear main seal on the engine had been leaking since getting the van, it took a month to get an appointment to get that fixed, and they kept the van for 2 weeks to do it... And it had to be taken in twice for that to get done right I think the first time they just poured som gasket sealer in to cover the problem but it didn't. Tell me please has JD Byrider cornered the market on Lemons?

My Friend, faithfully made the payments until this month when before the payment was due she turned the vehicle in and told them it was no longer in her price range having fallen on bad times... Paying $334.33 monthly plus full coverage insurance $164.00 a month, on a fixed monthly income of $664 after her roommate moved out. The very next day Still before the payment was due on the van I got called "hey we're offering you the option on this van you co-signed for..." what do I need it for I have a perfectly good car I already own with no payments and no problems? Why would I want their Lemon, at nearly 3 times fair market value? When i tried to explain this to them "Ok. Well we'll see you in court and garnish your wages"

Why is there no protection for someone who wants out of a co-signer contract... Or some clause for transfer or release of co-signer responsibility?

Can anyone help on these issues?
