Scam charging Double for 1 magazine subscription

Thursday, July 21, at 8:45pm a boy and a girl came knocking at our door my husband answered and I followed. They simply stated they would earn points for a Savings bond for college or to start their own business. So we answered some questions, they invited themselves into the house.

They sat down and presented us with a list of magazine titles. I looked and asked how much one would be. They kept trying to put an order in for 2 and I told them I could only order one. She pretended to look up a Magazine Title and search for a price.in the mean time my husband had to leave for work.

She presented me with a scribble scrabbled receipt that had prices marked and scratched out. She told me to pay $20 now and send in another $20 and after the second payment I would receive my magazine. She told me to write out the check for "cash" which I wasn't sure why.

After talking to my Sister who worked in a bank she told me that a check made out for cash means that anybody can cash it. I have decided not to send in the other $20 and do without the magazine. I'm already out of $20 and I don't want to be had on another $20.

I kindof questioned them at first but I was uncomfortable with them in my house and my husband gone. My check has already been cashed. It may not seem like a lot of money but to me it is.
