I just fell for this magazine scam tonight. Here is a letter I wrote and will be sending to this company. It details my experience. I hope this will work and that I will not receive any bills.

To Whom It May Concern:

Please cancel my subscription. A young man who claimed his name was Mark Sloan came to my door today selling magazines. I agreed to purchase a subscription for my mother to Readers Digest and wrote a check for $36.00.

However, after he left, I looked at the receipt and became very suspicious when I saw that he had dated it July 13. According to the Notice of Cancellation on the receipt, all cancellations must be postmarked within three business days, so his predating makes it impossible for me to cancel! This makes me very wary. Today is July 17, which is already three days past the incorrect date he wrote. I then searched for your company on the Internet and saw that it has been involved in many scams.

I also visited your website and left a message for you there about this situation. I tried to call your number but I reached a recording stating the office was closed, even though I was calling within business hours of the Las Vegas time zone.

I have already contacted my bank to stop payment on the check, so please do not put it through. I have also spoken with my apartment complex courtesy officer and she gave me a number to the local police department to call in the morning.

I fully expect that the matter will be resolved now and that I will not receive any further bills from your company or from the C.G.S. Collection agency. I refuse to pay any service fee for my cancelled check.
