Platinum Universal Gaming Cross Border Scam Ripoff

Miscellaneous

I received an envelope with no return address and a Canadian Stamp. The letter was from Platinum Universal Gaming. Apparently, this is a cross-border scam. I was told to deposit the legitimate-looking check for $2,980 and that I had won $68,000 in their North American Promotion which occurred online with either Online Gaming, Readers Digest or Publishers Clearing House. I supposedly was one of 6 people chosen to split the $408,000 grand prize. The $2,980 was to cover processing, tax and other fees.

After depositing the check and waiting 24-48 hours, I was to call a number with a (613) area code, which is in Canada, and speak to my award agent to get further instructions. I'm assuming that they ask for a money order sent to them to pay the amount stated above and they stop payment on the check or it has insufficient funds. Not really sure because I came onto this sight and saw someone who received the exact same letter.

If it sounds too good to be true... It Is! I have to say this is the first time I actually received a legitimate looking check with no small print at the bottom. Hope this helps someone.
