Does not enforce laws - promoting identity theft Apache Junction, Arizona

Miscellaneous

We live in a rural area with "rural mail boxes" that everybody who looks for personal information can open.

It is by law forbidden to open these boxes if you are not a postal employee or the owner of the mailbox. Still, every once a while there are people who go from mailbox to mailbox, opening them to check what's in there and if someone asks them what they are doing it is "I am putting my advertisements into your mailbox".

This is illegal and the Apache Junction post office is aware of it. Still they don't do anything to enforce the law. If there is a phone number on the advertisement, they would call that number up and give that person a courtesy call. I called the postal inspector and their comment was: we don't have any staff to enforce the laws, making a phone call corresponds to our protocol in cases where people drive around to open mail boxes. There is nothing else we can do, sorry for the inconvenience.

No wonder that Arizona is the # 1 state for identity theft!
