Platinum Sales
Beware! Fraudulent magazine sales using young adults with excellent performing skills and sad but hopeful stories to better themselves

Miscellaneous

This is a well produced scam. The door to door representative is finely tuned, dressed and rehearsed to speak about his dreadful background of gangs and drugs and now desperate plight to better himself.

He sincerely says that this company is giving him the opportunity to earn points (money) from selling magazines and he will gain the ability to help not only himself but also his desperate family. This is his honest way to turn his life around and become a respectable citizen. You are made to feel you are a terrible human being if you do not help him out. He is VERY good.

The truth is: The sales people drive in from out of state, they stay in local cheap motels in the city they have chosen, canvas the area quickly and then leave town. They play on the sympathy of homeowners, have them sign up for magazines (that they can send to a charity, if wanted) at outrageous, inflated prices, promise them everything, take their check and vanish, never to be heard from again.

The check is cashed as fast as possible and any hope of getting an intelligent response from the number of Customer Service is non-existant. This scam has been going on for as long as I can remember and is still successful. I felt I should warn people who haven't been exposed to it to SLAM the door and RUN!
