Gq Imports
Another victim of gq imports ripoff

Miscellaneous

I found GQ Imports through CareerBuilder.com. I applied and almost forgot about them after a few weeks had passed. Just last week I received a phone call on Thursday at about 10:00 am. It was from Tracy at GQ Imports telling me her manager had reviewed my resume and they were interested in setting up an interview! However, they were trying to get all interviews done by the weekend. I asked if there was any way I could set it up for the following week so I could plan it out better. She said that is possible but I would have to call her early the following week to see if there are still open positions. Frustrated, I asked her, "So you're telling me you're giving me less than a day's notice to try to get off work to drive down the Addison?" "Yes." Ok... So I told her I would have to check with my manager and I would call back. I called her back only to talk with her secretary. I asked 2 things: 1. When did the interview process begin and 2. What times were available for interviews. She told me she had no clue when they began but she thinks they just started. The times were 10:45 AM, 12:15 PM, 4:30 PM. I told her I would have to double check with my manager and I would call back. For the last time, I called back to set up the 4:30 interview. Tracy was once again unavailable so I spoke with her secretary again. I asked what times were available for the interview (I was somewhat snotty when I called the first time as I was irritated they would give such short notice about setting this up) and she gave the same times but this time there was a 5:30 PM. I took the 5:30 PM.

I left work from Highland Park to make the drive down to Addison. I arrived 15 minutes early. I walked in to what I would call a makeshift office. A cd player was playing trans/dance music at an obnoxious level. There were two office doors and a secretary. She immediately asked if I was there for an interview. As I filled out my application, I heard her answering phones, chit chatting with whomever was on the other end, taking and running credit card numbers, etc etc. A couple of times she simply got up and walked away as the phones were ringing. So I finished my application and began waiting. She took that and my resume into an office with a big window (possibly a board room of some sort) and handed someone my information. Apparently there is a door that connects the two rooms because he instantly popped out the door to my right. Unfortunately, he mumbled his name so I didn't catch it. I am pretty sure it was not Kevin although that is who I was told I was interviewing with. I was too embarrassed to question him since I dnd't want to screw it up. I figured I could wing it. So I sat down at his desk ready for my interview! He asked me where I was coming from and when I could start etc etc. Then he asked me how I rate my customer relation skills. I asked what? On a scale of 1 to 10? He said sure. I said 9-10 since that is what I currently do. Then he asked what I would like to be financially making. I didn't really know what to say. I gave him a number that I found to be reasonable. Then he explained what the company was all about, being sure to include that they work with "numerous Fortune 500 companies". Then he told me this was the first of two interviews and it was moreso to put a face to the name. He told me they were chosing 4-6 people from the list of applicants to come back next week and shadow a manager (so wear comfortable shoes). He said as long as his managers agreed with him with everything he had seen (he then winked at me), they would be calling me that night between 6-7 PM. He said thank you for coming in etc etc. The whole interview lasted about 4-5 minutes. It took me longer to fill out the application than when I sat in the office.in hindsight I should have gotten up and said this interview is over the minute he winked at me, but I need a new job and I figured this was a good opportunity. Apparently not. I thank my Dad for turning me on to this website so I'm not too upset about not getting a call back. Although it is just as bad to find out this terrible company wasted my time, my manager's time, my efforts, and was so deceiving.
