Chelsea Court Apartments
Chelsea Court is run by slumlords who cater to drug dealers ripoff

Miscellaneous

When I first moved into this complex I thought it was a decent place to live, but due to management changes this place has only gotten worse. The complex is dominated by drug dealers and people who loiter and follow tenants around. About 80% of the people who live here do not have a job outside of drug dealing - that is their income besides collecting monthly government checks.

There are constantly small children riding their bikes in front of moving vehicles with no parents in sight. There are also at least six small kids (between the ages of three and eight years old) who play around the enterance gate during the busiest part of the day when people are coming home from work. The gate is right in front of the office in clear view of the staff yet they do nothing about these children nearly getting hit by cars entering the premises.

There used to be security in this complex but management decided to do away with that several months ago with no notice to tenants and now we are told to call 911 so that they don't have to deal with the problems themselves.

The management and staff are very uncooperative and rude when you try to discuss problems with them, and instead of addressing issues you are told to move out if you don't like it. Whenever I walk to the mailbox, take my garbage out to the dumpster, or go out to my car I am constantly stalked by the drug dealers. They will let anybody move in and they do not do a background check before letting new tenants move in.

The management of Chelsea Court has committed numerous lease violations, such as allowing more than the alloted number of people to reside in a particular sized unit. For example, there are currently at least five people living above me in a townhouse and I was told by the manager that only a maximum of three people were allowed to live in that particular sized unit. When I told the manager there were more than three people living there and asked her to do something about it, she told me that her "hands were tied" and that there was nothing she could do about the situation.

I had informed the manager prior to people moving in that the unit was red-flagged due to broken subflooring issues and that nobody could move in until the subfloor was repaired. I was assured that the subfloor would be fixed and instead new carpet was installed without it being fixed and the new tenants were moved in immediately. Numerous complaints to the office regarding the amount of noise coming from the unit upstairs have been ignored or I have been told to move out if I don't like it.

This complex also has a massive roach infestation of which management is aware and refuses to do anything about it. With the old management company exterminators would come out weekly but now they come only once a month if that much. Every few months we get a notice on our door that exterminators will be in our apartment to exterminate but they never show up. When you call the office to tell them they say they will put your name on the list for the following month and once again nobody comes by to exterminate.

Maintenance requests put into the office for repairs are never fulfilled and are often lost.in order for something to be fixed in your apartment you have to call at least five times, and each time you call someone from the office has no record of a maintenance request. My dishwasher was not bolted in and would fall forward whenever you opened it and I had to call six times before they would finally come out to fix it. I let them know that I have a small child and he could be severely injured if the dishwasher was to fall onto him and it was still another week and a half before someone finally came out to fix it.

The dumpsters in the complex are often overflowing and recently when taking my garbage out I have noticed swarms of bees around the dumpster. It is not uncommon to have garbage piled at least three feet high and five feet wide in the parking lot next to the dumpster every week.

In conclusion, I am currently stuck in a lease in which I am surrounded by dangerous situations and people, and an uncooperative management company whose only concern is collecting rent. I am almost certain I could legally break my lease due to the number of violations this complex has broken, but am afraid that if I was to break the lease Chelsea Court would report me to a crediting agency and my perfect rental credit would be ruined.

When my lease is finally up I will definitely be moving so another drug dealer can have the opportunity to move in here and be in good company.in the meantime, however, I have learned to watch my back and always carry a cell phone in the event I need to call the police.

On a scale of one to five, I would rate Chelsea Court a negative twenty. It is a very dangerous place to live and not worth the outrageous rent they want each month.
