American Debt Negotiators Possible Ripoff Possible Scam for Debt Settlement

I am not sure what is going on here - It started with a phone call to Consumer Credit Counseling of America to help handle my bills, loans that were past due - I was looking for an alternative to bankruptcy since I do not have a whole lot of debt - but going through a divorce, my funds were getting tighter.ccCA put me on the line with Richard A. Brennan, and it sounded like a good idea. I never would have thought anything bad since CCCA referred me to them. I filled out the paperwork when it was sent to me and my initial payment was taken out - even though my bank stated it was a "Funding Adjustment" and never really stated who took the money out.ccCA was extremely helpful, so I am not sure if they knew or know what is going on.

I did not hear anything and never received a statement or any communication til January and then it was from American Debt Negotiators stating they are handling Richard A. Brennans accounts. It seemed that things were going ok, yet the harassing phone calls and threats of being arrested from the creditors were continuing. I kept thinking something should be happening by now. Then the payment date of January 17 passed and no money was taken out - I called American Debt Negotiators and they told me they never received any of the paperwork I sent over back in late November. I had to refax everything over to them. I waited a week and called again. I was told they STILL did not have any information on me. I asked for an explanation and I was told they are way behind schedule - by now, it has been almost two months since I called CCCA.

I looked on the BBB site and was shocked at all the complaints on Richard A. Brennan. I faxed over a letter immediately and told them not to withdraw any additional money.

I received a call two days ago from American Debt Negotiators demanding I give them an alternative account number over the phone and when I refused I was badgered until I gave them one. I closed that account the next day. I never heard of anyone, that I had no idea who it was demanding account information over the phone. And believe it or not, they still did not have my information that I faxed into the system.

I am furious, but glad that I caught this now. I do not have extra money to be thrown around like this. I have filed complaints with the MA BBB, the FL BBB and the MD BBB (who was very interested in what I had to say).ccCA claims they have no affiliation with Richard A. Brennan - however, the addresses are the same and the answer I am given is that no one is trying to scam me or hurt me.

Wanted to add my experience here. And if there is a legitimate debt settlement attorney or business I am in desperate need to get this stuff taken care of.
