Fuel use tax was brought to vote of the will of the people because two congressmen felt like fuel was an untaxed source of income for owner operators or truck drivers. Remember that fuel use tax was intended to replace income tax for fuel because the congress felt like fuel was income for owner operator. We get no social security benifit for fuel use tax ans that is an rip off. For example, at that time social security was an failed system four people retired to one person working it was not an functional system. So, today I pay 12000 to 15000 dollars every year in fuel use tax and I recieve no retiement benifit for it I have no Ira and I can not buy my dream house because the government unseps 12k to 15k evry year from me. I pump 500 to 600 gallons of fuel into my tank evry week and the federal government collects $. 50 cents per gallon and the state government different amounts depending on what state I fuel in. For example, PA=$. 32c. P.G. NJ Gets $. 29c. P.G. I pay every week that I work about $250 up to $350 dollars for fuel use tax or $12000 to $15000 per year it varies from year to year.
