Said I won a large sum of money in the lottery sweepstakes and sent a check for 2953.25 Ripoff

I was sent a letter along with a check for 2953.25. The letter stated I won the lottery for 100,000 dollars and also informed me not to contact any third parties, which is what made me suspicious. I contacted my bank and was told to check out all resourses available to make sure that this is not a scam. This led me to go online and follow up on north american lotteries. The check looks so real as well as all the right security fingerprinting stamps even the bank Wachovia in NC. The company's name on the check though I found no listing for. I would like to bring charges up on these individuals if they are ever apprehended for any reason. I could've had a coronary attack or even an anxiety attack either way this is very dangerous to play as well as prey on people in this manner.
